Katie g. Jewellery is handcrafted from natural precious metals. Time, a lot of thought and testing is invested in every piece to achieve the highest quality. At the same time imperfections of the materials are deliberately brought to life and captured within the piece, becoming its most beautiful aspect. If you find one, treasure it and know that there is only one like it! Patinas and coatings change continuously, revealing new facets of each piece allowing for an endless array of combinations. This process differs in time and intensity depending on what kind of journey you share with your Katie g. Jewellery.

Katie g. Jewellery pieces are available in a number of finishes. Each finish requires certain care. Please refer to the categories below to find out more. Katie g. Jewellery is supposed to be worn and loved. Love your piece and it’ll love you back

Patinas – Oxidised black & white

Silver naturally oxidises and therefore blackens over time. This is a normal and completely safe process which I love. I accelerate this process in my oxidised black series giving each of these pieces a unique matt black finish. The same applies for matt white pieces which are treated with heat to achieve this exceptional finish. Like a pair of jeans, this finish or patina, will fade over time. You do not have to worry about neither your clothes nor your skin getting stained. The process differs in time and intensity depending on how you wear the piece. Certain chemicals in perfume and cosmetics or abrasion through manual work or, for instance, washing your hands while wearing your ring will accelerate this process. In return the piece will reflect your lifestyle and become as unique as you. Above is an illustration of the aging process of the pieces. In this illustration you see several different Ring models at different stages of the process:

Complimentary Re-Coating Service

The beauty of the black and white patinas on silver pieces is that, as they change and fade with time, if you wish you can return to the original patina of the metal and start the process all over again. The Ring becomes a living piece everyday showing a new facet, allowing for a sheer endless array of combinations. Please visit me in my shared Atelier for this complimentary service.

General Care Instructions

Katie g. Rings are meant to be worn not just kept in a display case. The materials used are of the highest quality and will, if treated right, last you a life time. There are a few things you can do to take care of your piece to ensure it will bring you joy for many years to come

  • Gold and silver are natural elements. MOISTURE and certain CHEMICALS found in household cleaning products (e.g. bleach), swimming pools, soap and cosmetics may tarnish or harm your piece. We recommend taking your jewellery off when exposed to these chemicals.
  • Strong changes in TEMPERATURE may further tarnish or harm your piece. Please don’t expose your piece to high heat such as Saunas, radiators or concentrated sunlight.
  • If possible avoid strong IMPACTS to your piece. Gold and silver are quite soft metals so they will show heavy impacts on the surface. However small imperfections may just make the piece even more interesting.
  • Always put jewellery on last as a finishing touch after getting ready.
  • Gently wipe jewellery clean with a soft cloth after each wear to remove make up & oils (from skin).
  • Thoroughly dry jewellery after exposure to water: moisture can cause tarnishing & may weaken springs & clasps.
  • Coil chains gently or hang them off a hook or nail to prevent damage in storage.

Cleaning Your Piece

Over time soap, dirt, cosmetic products and the oils from your skin will collect on your piece. Shiny pieces would therefore over time seem a little dull. Ideally thoroughly wipe each piece of jewellery with a soft, clean cloth as soon as you remove it. The goal is to remove any oil, salt or acid contaminants and to dry the piece. Should a bit of dirt build up and your piece loses its shine, the best way to clean it is to use an ultrasonic cleaning machine. I will be happy to clean your pieces if you leave them with me over night. For a quick fix however you can also simply soak your jewellery in lukewarm soapy water (ideally detergent free soap) and clean gently with a soft brush (a toothbrush is ideal). Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. For extra shine use a microfiber or a 100% cotton cloth to polish up your piece. Never use anything but a clean, soft material. Paper, polyester, and coarse fabrics may contain wood

or other fibers that can cause tiny scratches in the surface of fine silver. A good tip is to gently rub the piece in straight lines, not in circles.

Gold Plated Pieces

Our gold plated pieces are heavily plated in 18k gold over sterling silver, the gold layer will (very slowly) eventually wear off. When it does it can be re-plated at a low cost through any jewellers or we would be happy to do it for you.

Pieces With Gemstones

A lot of time and care is taken into placing and fixing every gem stone on Katie g. Jewellery. It is a good idea however to have these pieces checked regularly to address any signs of damage and loosening to keep your piece in excellent shape for many years. Again any good goldsmith will provide this service but we would be more than happy to do it for you.

To avoid unnecessary scratching be sure to store your piece in a soft jewellery pouch or in the original box. Ideally your piece is stored away from natural sunlight, heat and moisture or not at all and worn at all times :)
